The oldest operating diesel outside of a museum in the country, NIRC SW1 1, leads the wheel job through Blue Island. It is pulling a string of retired former IC highliners.
The "Wheel Job" brings a few bilevels down the main. Veteran NIRC 1 would then shove back to make a drop off. Built as the IC 9016 in December 1938, she's still earning her keep!
According to the engineer this is the oldest locomotive in Chicagoland, buit in the year 1939.
